Exceptional quality 18th century gilt bronze (“bronze dore”) andiron statuette depicting a shepherd boy. French Louis XV period Circa 1760. In the manner of Jean-Jacques Caffieri (1725-1792).
Pastoral subjects were popular at this period. Finely cast and chased with detailed after-work. The mercury gilt is nicely work at the extremities to reveal the bronze underneath.
