A fine George III gilt bronze statuette of Minerva on a Blue John and white marble plinth. Attributed to Matthew Boulton. Finely cast and chased. The detachable shield is embellished with a Medusa's head. The base engraved with the name: "Minerva". English circa 1770.

This is a known model. An example, attributed to Matthew Boulton, was sold by Sothebys, 8 July 1988, lot 13.

This may be the same example that was sold at Christie's on 16 November 89 - which was noted to have a base "inscribed Minerva".

Another example was sold in Christie's "Important English Furniture", London 15 November 1990.
