Presented in it’s original carved giltwood “Lely” frame. The main buildings of the Naval College were completed in 1712, which may indicate the approximate date of this scene.
This architectural view was designed to convey the full drama of Wren’s baroque masterpiece. The artist has imported “cappriccio” elements into the background, depicting a non-existent bridge. Wonderful vignettes found within the painting.
